Heidy ho, old friends!
Judging by my last blog, any visitors over the past three months might have assumed I disappeared in France or became a crazy spinster cat lady. While the latter might be true (see end of post), it really has just been quite a busy/fun summer – and as always, one that went by entirely too fast.
So, here it is, the UPDATE OF ALL UPDATES!
FIRST, WORK STUFF:
- BREAK.COM DEAL: I signed a little buy generic viagrafirst look deal-a-roo with the awesomely hilarious video site, BREAK. A “first look deal” is really just the fancy schmancy Hollywood way of saying that they think I’m a pretty cool gal, and I think they’re pretty cool, too, so we’re gonna do multiple projects together.
My first project with them is Game for Gamers, a comedic instructional series teaching gamers how to get girls using gaming strategies.
You can see four promos for the series here. I had a great time working with my friends on them, and am really excited about my other stuff in the works over there. Plus they have free coke machines in their lobby.
- In the web world, I did another episode of BlackboxTV in Atlanta this summer with some of my favorite web peeps, which you can see here. In TV land, I got close to booking a few roles; fortunately, I haven’t suffered any long term damage from the stream of close call rejection.
- In August, I shot an F/X late night show pilot with the incredibly funny Spike Feresten and a team of his awesome comedian friends. Fingers crossed that the show gets picked up so that I can teach Spike how to effectively use Twitter.
PERSONAL STUFF:
- I spent time in NY, Austin, the Hamptons, Mexico, Atlanta, and my hometown of Wichita, KS.
- I moderated a panel at Comic-Con in San Diego for Elfquest and then partied bananas afterwards with all my fellow nerd machines.

Tiggie
- I made it on TheChive.com (thanks to my Twitter followers for making me aware of this.)
- I got a kitten, Tiggie, who is simultaneously the biggest pain in my ass and the greatest love of my life.

So there you have it! There’s more to tell, but my fingers are getting cramped. More updates to come!
Peas and happiness!

It happened this May. I caught the travel bug. You never know when it’s going to strike, typically at inopportune times, but it just doesn’t want to leave until…well, you do. So, I packed my bags and headed east – WAY east – to a land where wine is cheaper than water; cheese shops are more common than Starbucks, and croissants are…well, everywhere.
The Cannes film fest gave me a great excuse to go (see film fest shenanigans here), but truthfully, I wanted to do more than just hang on the beach and hobnob.
With the help of my friends at airbnb (a FANTASTIC resource for travelers looking for unique local accommodations), I met up with local airbnb hosts and they each showed me their city, through their eyes.
Tough to do the whole trip justice in 3 minute videos but, alas, here you are….LIVING LIKE A LOCAL in Cannes, Nice, and Monaco:
Tonight was the premiere of Battle: Los Angeles, a film by Jonathan Liebesman for Sony/Columbia that stars Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, and a host of other incredibly talented actors. I have a small role in the film (see the video down below for a few snippets of me from the various trailers), but it was so much fun to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the film’s premiere tonight with my lovely date, Jessica Rose (see our pre-red carpet snapshot below as well…)
If you aren’t familiar with the film’s premise, Battle: Los Angeles is a sci-fi/action thriller told from the POV of a marine battalion who must fight to save Los Angeles from an alien invasion. It’s action packed visual eye candy – and a special warning for the ladies: you may want to bring a few tissues!!
So, if you’re looking for some movie entertainment this weekend, check it out – you won’t be disappointed! Battle: Los Angeles opens March 11, 2011.

Last night was one of the more, shall I say…interesting (?) hosting experiences I’ve ever had. And quite honestly, the most fun!
Paramount and Livestream teamed up to host a live launch party for Jackass 3 on DVD/Blue Ray – complete with insane rides, the Jackass cast, and ridiculous giveaways (err, am I allowed to state that the gift bags included a dildo?) Anyway.
Highlights from the night included me pranking Bam Margera with a plastic snake (YES!), getting my ass beat by a two time world champion sumo wrestler, and trading port-o-potty tips with Steve-O.
If you’re a Jackass fan and sad you missed out on the action, you can check out the live stream at LiveStream.com/Jackass3 and Facebook.com/Jackass.
I was terrified by other girls growing up. They wore cool clothes and were mean and bonded over New Kids on the Block and Sketchers and Seventeen Magazine. (New Kids on the Block?? I didn’t even know where to find Sketchers and Seventeen scared the shit out of me.) I played Nintendo and read sci-fi novels and constructed lame websites on Geocities with amateur HTML.
The blessing about working in the entertainment industry is that I’m finally surrounded by chicks who are way weirder than I am and doing all sorts of awesome things about it. This pilot season is no exception.
Thanks to fearless writers like Diablo Cody, who made it cool and provenly profitable for girls to be totally wack and smart and visceral, the industry’s expectations of female characters in TV land are changing. Fast. (Sidenote: you’ve got to check out Diablo’s Red Band Trailer web series. I love it.) Not only are there more and more female writers out there, but their material is nothing short of real female and risky. (more…)
I don’t know about all of you, but I tend to start every year with enthusiastic abandon, ready to take on the world. Then every year, a few weeks go by, and I begin to feel the first creeping sensation of panic – It’s almost mid-January! What have I accomplished!?
A good friend just sent me a book excerpt that I thought was such a perfect little reminder…that success, change, and opportunity don’t happen overnight. To keep myself in check, I’m going to post one tweet every day this month – my own daily “auto-suggestion,” which I’ll define for now as a positive intention-based thought. It could be something I’m hopeful for, excited about, or even just sending good vibes toward. Feel free to send me yours on Twitter as well, I look forward to reading them.
And now for the excerpt, which I thought I should share as we all continue moving forward into our work, social obligations, and chaos of the year: (more…)
Whew! I am now back in America, folks, and fighting jet lag – but I really want to finish Part 2 of my Travel Hacking post before the chaos of the year begins.
In Part I, I spent quite a lot of time going over airlines and their various reward programs. Now it’s time to talk accommodations. Keep in mind, these are just my recommendations (I’m not being sponsored by any of these companies.)
Just like the airlines, hotels have programs that reward you with free nights when you rack up a certain number of points. I’m a member of the Starwood program, the Marriott program, and the Hilton program, but I’ve found through trial and error that Starwood tends to have the most flexibility, options for reward use, and availability. Most importantly for me, however, is Starwood’s website. It’s so much easier to use than the other hotel award sites and their customer service is impeccable. (more…)
Have you ever wanted to travel around the world, first class, and stay in 5 star hotels for little more than taxes and surcharges? Then read on, my friend.
I was 19 when I applied for my first passport. Having never been outside the country, I remember flipping through all the fresh, empty pages, thinking there’s no way I’ll ever be able to fill this thing with stamps!
Now, five years later, I am pleasantly surprised to see I will need to obtain new pages before embarking on my next trip.
I caught the travel bug hard after my first international trip. Now I make it a firm mission to travel outside the US at least once a year, usually over holiday break. My adventures have taken me through Europe, South America, the Middle East, and most recently, Asia (I just finished a three-week trip through Tokyo, Bangkok, Koh Samui, Hong Kong, and Macau.) (more…)
It doesn’t take much to make me cry. A few minutes of Britain’s Got Talent, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and Undercover Boss, and I’m a mess of tears. Forget about inviting me over to watch CNN’s Heroes special. I will just sob all over you.
So I offer you fair warning that the three videos I share below are full-on tear jerkers. In honor of Thanksgiving, these are the true stories of people who face incredible challenges, and yet, give so much thanks back to the world. They show us the true spirit of giving; they inspire us to re-examine ourselves, to try harder, and to believe in dreams again.
