Lately, a lot of people on my live chat show have asked how they can get an autographed photo or send me letters.

Well, I finally got a PO Box!  Send to:

C/O Taryn Southern

PO BOX 480441

Los Angeles, CA 90048

If you would like an autographed photo, please mail me (inside your own envelope) – a self-addressed, STAMPED envelope along with a note of who you would like the autograph made out to and the size of the photo (I can do 8×10 or 5×7…so make sure your self addressed stamped envelope is large enough and has the correct postage for this!) It’s really important that the envelope has enough postage – otherwise it’ll never make it back to you!

Please allow up to 4-6 weeks to get it back :) Thanks!

Taryn

Today I was going through some of my youtube messages (I do sift through them all…eventually!) and thought these three messages were funny because they  were in this order, and are fit the 3 categories of typical messages I receive from fans, viewers, and well, haters.

___________________________________________________________

MESSAGE #1 from JaiKayCee – The I-Hate-You/Hope-You-Die Message:
YOU SUCK
YOU SUCK
You are ugly! Your videos suck! QUIT YOUTUBE!

MESSAGE #2 from SportsMan10 – The I-Love-You-But-Can’t-Have-You Message:
Hoping this is truly you…
If this is really you…

I saw a video of yours and thought you were the most beautiful girl in the world. I searched further to find out who you really were. Then came the hard truth. I knew that all hope was lost for me when I read your life’s work.

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but it seems I have no other choice. I can honestly say that I believe your one of the very best of all God’s creations. I hope to follow you throughout your life to witness the many great things you’ll accomplish. This may sound corny, but I will wait until the next life to meet you if I have to. Thanks for being who you are.

MESSAGE #3 from iEnjoiSnowboarding – The I-Am-A-Horndog Message:
Dear Miss Taryn Southern
You are sexy as f*ck and need to message me back.
Im pretty sure we need to get together and have some frisky sex.
That’ll be all, talk to you soon babe.

So now y’all have an idea of what hits my inbox on a semi daily basis. Lol. Gotta love the internet :)

And PS – To all of you who really do write me sweet, encouraging messages, it means the world…and makes all of the nasty messages worth it!!

Talk to you soon,

Taryn

So excited – just found out I’ll be hosting for the Golden Globes Post Show Party live on NBC (8pm PST) with Nick Cannon! It’s my first network hosting gig (and live!) so…THANK YOU, NBC! I’ll be doing post-show commentary and interviewing all the stars backstage after they’ve won their award.

NBC graphic

I’ll still be hosting the red carpet pre-show for NBC.com with Julie Moran, Quddus, and Jenni Pulos. The show will also stream live on Facebook – facebook.com/goldenglobes – and UStream.tv on Sunday from 2:30pm – 5pm PST and the after-party show (also on NBC.com, Facebook, and Ustream) from 9pm-10pm PST.

That’s almost…8 hours…on camera…live. Whew! Hopefully I won’t screw up too bad ;-)

In the meantime, you guys can help me out by sending me tweets – twitter.com/tarynsouthern – with questions you’d like me to ask your favorite celebs. I’ll be looking at the Twitter feed throughout the show, and giving real-time shout outs when I can.

BUT MORE IMPORTANT THAN ALL OF THIS – everyone at NBC and Dick Clark Productions is committed to using the Golden Globes platform and audience to help the people of Haiti. I will keep you guys updated on how you can donate…but for right now, I recommend going to savehaitisaturday.com and texting BEST to 501501 to donate $5 INSTANTLY. It’s easy, and $5 from every person makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I never thought my “debut” at Key Club would be a live performance of “Wrong Hole,” but hey…who’s judging? ;-)

Here is some video from the night for those of you who weren’t there. Thanks to DJ Lubel and Miles Fisher for asking me to be a part of the musical comedy event!

app full proxy.php 540x85 My New Live Web Show

A few weeks ago I decided to add something onto my plate – a live web show on UStream. I’m quite familiar with live web TV – I’ve practically been hosting live online red carpets since the technology was available…but I’ve never done my own show.

Make no mistake – this isn’t a studio set show with three cameras, 4 guests, and a live performance – it’s just me and my laptop, often getting off track, nervously getting back “on” track, talking about what’s on my mind, and interacting with people who are watching. It’s not exactly professional, but….if I’m trying to become even more entrenched in this whole web entertainment world, it does help to understand how live web TV works.

So I launched my show on UStream a few weeks ago – The Taryn Ten at 10pm EST - not without a few (okay, a lot!) of technical glitches, of course. Toad Saulnier from All American Rejects was my first guest, and Bart, my hamster, was my one live audience member.

I’m now getting ready for my fourth “show” tonight and already I’m seeing what works…and what doesn’t. I don’t think the Top Ten list works. It’s hard to spend 30 minutes moving through a top ten list – it almost needs to just be a “bit” up front and then done with.

I LOVE having guests and taking questions from viewers. That’s my favorite part – so I’m going to try to focus on that from here on out. I want the talk to be entertainment/ web geek centric — so my guests will be anyone from web celebs to comic book loving actors.

This week, actress/supermodel Jaime King (Sin City/My Bloody Valentine) is stopping by. I have a goal  - by Feb 1, I want to be producing my show in a professional studio with three cameras. I want to be able to cut to cool web clips and have a cute little jingle intro play in the beginning. I want it to feel…like a real show.

But I need your help. If you guys have seen a lot of live web tv, tell me what you’d like to see more of, and what you DON’T like. Let me know if you agree that I should ditch the Top Ten theme and just maybe do a little Top Ten bit at the very beginning of the show each week. Let me know what you think of doing a weekly giveaway, your thoughts on the title, and if you have ideas for an animated sequence at the beginning. If you or your friends know how to create animated sequences, let me know, as I will need to find someone to do that!

Thanks so much for your suggestions, and here’s a stream of the show if you want to check out previous ‘episodes’ (I’m warning you, it’s rough):

Ok, so 2009 wasn’t my best year. Whatever that means. I lost several people very close to me, including my dear grandmother, and regret spending too much time worrying about things that just didn’t matter.  I worked extremely hard, maybe too hard, and wasn’t able to make it home for Christmas this year because of everything going on.

It wasn’t just me. A great percentage of America felt the pinnacle of economic hardship, surmountable apathy from 8 previous years of disappointing politics, and shock and sadness over the unnecessary, pre-mature deaths of MJ, DJ AM, Brittany Murphy, and countless others.

That said, every year I try to take a step back and count my blessings in a list. A silly, self-indulgent practice, I know, but I think it’s important sometimes to look at the big picture, and be happy and grateful for what we are able to accomplish in our lives.

The irony of this upcoming list is that some of these “accomplishments” could potentially be seen as failures (projects fell through or things didn’t pan out the way I’d hoped, etc)…

BUT I do believe in the mantra – “At least I tried.”

As I sip on my glass-half-full cup of coffee, here are some of my ‘achievements’ in 2009:

1. I secured my first scripted TV pilot deal (based on the web series Private High Musical). It didn’t get picked up, but it was a great experience working with David Zuckerman and MTV.

2. Signed with a wonderful group of folks at ICM. I’m grateful to have agents that get me and are just all around cool people.

3. Joined  Twitter. Thanks, George. Now it’s become part of my routine.

4. Wrote a book proposal (still working on the actual book.)

5. Attempted pole dancing classes. Umm. Going once counts, right?

6. Started a new blog on EQAL  - TarynToGo.com – as a place for all of my random thoughts. Unfortunately, blogging consistency is not my strong point.

7. Initiated a breast cancer campaign called Tit For Tat, which we hope to continue next year during October Awareness Month.

8. Got my own iPhone App - http://bit.ly/taryntogo (even though I don’t have an iPhone.)

9. Acted in a few one-off YouTube videos and web series that earned more than 30 million hits (Wrong Hole, Woke Up Dead, Zombiez, The Temp Life, Lashes to Riches contest).

10. Started hosting a live web show for fun - The Taryn Ten – just three weeks ago. Hoping it will grow next year :)

11. Acted in three movies (Pound of FleshFrankenstein BrothersBattle Los Angeles) and a cool short (Dewana’s Bridal).

12. Moved into my own place. First time living alone!

Beyond this, in 2009 I met some amazing new friends in LA, had a lot of fun with my girlfriends, attended Sundance and Comicon, traveled to Denver, Lousiana, Santa Barbara, Catalina, San Diego and NY (frequently), and dramatically reduced my daily Starbucks coffee habit.

So maybe 2009 was a pretty darn good year :-) Hmm.

Cheers everyone. Happy New Years Eve :)

Like many of you, it feels like I’ve been hearing about Avatar for…years. James Cameron’s Avatar is one of the largest movies that Hollywood has ever made and by far the most technologically advanced – but it might just take the cake for the longest film in development – 14 years.

Co-Host Quddus and I on the Blue Carpet

Tonight I was incredibly honored to co-host the LIVE red carpet premiere with Quddus (MTV) and Peter Saldman (EntertainmentPremieres.com) for 20th Century Fox, MySpace, and UStream.TV.

Not only did we have a blast chatting with all the key players (Sam Worthington, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, James Cameron, etc) but also with all the fans on Twitter, UStream, and MySpace! We received hundreds of questions and comments and were able to ask them directly to the stars while they were being interviewed.

I’ve attached a few pics from the event, as well as the actual live footage (it’s an hour and a half, but I just embedded the last two sections with the most interviews.)

Special thanks to my fav. red carpet photographer Byron Purvis – http://photos.purvis.tv/events – for the photos :)

ALSO – we will be sending one lucky commenter a special Avatar prize pack in the next week – but give Quddus and I through the weekend to go through the comments :) If you’d like to be in the know about more live premieres and special prizes, please follow me on twitter – www.twitter.com/tarynsouthern – to get the inside scoop before it happens!

THE SHOW:

Wow – gotta admit, was quite flattered this weekend to receive not one, but THREE fan videos from people hoping to help Nancy win the Lashes to Riches Contest. I get a lot of comments and emails, and even some very cool drawings, but videos are a first for me!! Thank you so much!!! I thoroughly enjoyed them. Here they are, for your viewing:

My beloved hamster Bart has a message for everyone.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Nokia Lounge

What an evening of firsts!! Last night I hosted the Dick Clark Productions/ABC.com live stream of the American Music Awards Pre-Show. It was an hour and a half of non-stop activity…and SO much fun! Needless to say, I slept in this morning… but I thought I’d share some of the highlights of my “firsts” with you:

1. AUDIENCE – The show had the largest online streaming audience in the history of the AMA’s (and quite possibly other live streaming shows) with over 3.3 million viewers on YouTube, Facebook, and other sites carrying the AMA LIVE widget.

2. INTERVEWS – I interviewed Mary J Blige and LOVED her. I’d interviewed a lot of these folks before, either at the Grammy’s or Golden Globes, but she was a first, as well as a few others (Demi Lovato, who was a sweetheart, and Kid Cudi, who didn’t mind when I started belting out “Day and Night.”) All of the celebs on the carpet were extremely gracious and patient, because with live shows, they often have to wait until I get the green light on my feed.

Red Carpet

3. FASHION – I made my first “worst-dressed list”, although I didn’t feel so bad when I saw that Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato, Kristin Bell, and Nicole Kidman were a few of the other victims. And might I add, at the defense of these beautiful ladies and anyone else on a Worst-Dressed List, it is often the stylist who picks the clothes, not the celebrity!

4. THE SHOW – I actually got to sit and watch the show! (Usually when you host the red carpet pre-show, you don’t get tickets.) My sister, manager, and I had amazing tickets – center orchestra – and WOW! JLo, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Jay Z and Alicia Keys, Timbaland – AMAZING PERFORMANCES! I’ve been to a few award shows before (People’s Choice, MTV VMA’s, etc) but this was by far my favorite!

5. Last but not least, it was the first time I actually went to an after party! Usually I’m so exhausted, I head straight home, but I enjoyed some cupcakes and wine with friends and my sister (who was in town from Kansas). THEN I passed out. :)

So that’s the rundown!! Hope you guys enjoyed the pre-show and/or the actual show. And a huge thanks to my co-hosts, Jenni Pulos, Julie Moran, Jai Rodriguez, David Lehre, as well as the Facebook Girls Randi and Brandi and web extraordinaire iJustine! You guys really held down the forts.

Here’s some photos of the evening if you’d like to check ‘em out:
